Here is an ETCHING by this well known Canadian Artist from Montreal, titled -Recital...19/50.
BRIANSKY, Rita (Mrs. J. Prezament)
b. 1925
Born in Grajewa, Poland, she came to Canada in 1929 and was interested in art early in her life. In her teens she studied under Alexander Bercovitch at the Y.W.H.A. (1941-42); under Jacques de Tonnancour at the MMFA (1942-44); under M. Charpentier at the EBAM (1944-46); under Jan Carbino, Louis Bosa, H. Sternberg and V. Vytlacil at the Art Students' League, NYC (1946-48). Viewing her work in 1962 the Montreal
Gazette
art critic noted, "Rita Briansky is particularly successful in her interpretation of childhood's dreamy moods. All her works contain elements of tenderness and poetic sensitivity, whether her subjects embrace children, women, men, flowers and objects, or even a puppy-dog . . . . her work projects a quality of velvety softness, due to her knowledge of degrees of light and shade." She sketched her friends and especially her daughters. She preferred to paint people whom she knew very well in order to interpret what lies within them. One of her portraits was of Dr. Norman Bethune. Her media include: oils, conté, pastel and copper plate etching. She applied her oils thinly and smoothly except to indicate rugged features in the landscape. Her prints and drawings are perhaps better known. Her illustrations include:
Rubaboo 4
